An abridged version of the final report of the Norwegian pilot municipality project has now been translated into English and is available for downloading. The project itself, and in particular the methods employed, have generated widespread interest abroad.

More measures to enhance universal design

The Government action plan designed to increase accessibility for persons with disabilities has now been given additional scope. Halfway through 2006, the number of concrete measures has been increased from 97 to 124. 25 per cent of the measures have already been implemented.

Legislative committee proposes bill prohibiting discrimination on the basis of disability

The committee was appointed in the autumn of 2002, and has been chaired by Professor dr. juris, MD, Aslak Syse, Department of Public and International Law, University of Oslo. It was charged with drafting a new act relating to prohibition against discrimination on the basis of disability (Discrimination and Accessibility Act) to be applied in all spheres of society. In addition to the new legislation, the committee has proposed amendments to the Planning and Building Act currently in force.
